Two months have come and gone and I sit here shaking my head at how quickly it is going. Well, maybe I should say that the nights are long but the days sure do fly by. If I had the chance, I wouldn’t stop time but I sure would slow it down a bit.
Lane David: 2 Months Old
Two Month Stats:
Weight: 10 pounds, 10 ounces (he is a peanut)
Length: 21.75 inches
Lane is my smallest baby yet! I have a feeling he is going to catch up but due to his milk protein allergy and my struggles with breastfeeding in the beginning, he has been off to a slow start. At least I am assuming he will catch up because his brother and sister are both giants but who knows, he may stay my little runt. 🙂
Likes: Lane loves to be held. A lot. Who can blame him! He also really likes his swing. It’s about the only thing he likes as far as his baby equipment. He still loves diaper changes and gives me the biggest squeals and smiles while laying on his changing table. I joke that we should just strap him in and let him sleep there! He has really started enjoying his playtime mat this month as well. He will lay on it for a good 20-30 minutes, being very content. Baths are also another favorite of this little fella. I look forward to when he can really splash around in there!
Dislikes: He dislikes being put down, ha! Hey, I told you he loves being held. He isn’t a big fan of his bouncer or his rock n play, darn it! I was convinced the rock n play would be magic from all the reviews I read, but not in this house. He likes to be swaddled when he is sleeping but he doesn’t like his little hands wrapped up in it. I think it’s because he sucks on his hands to soothe himself. Which brings me to his next dislike. The paci. Liam was addicted to his and I figured Lane would be to but nope, if you put it in his mouth he just gets annoyed and angry!
Eating: He has been an eating champ this past month. He still nurses 90% of the time but we have finally found a non dairy formula that he will not only accept, but actually likes. It is Alimentum from Similac. We have tried the Nutramigen but he hated it and we pretty much had to force him to take it. I’m not sure what the difference is but he actually welcomes the Alimentum. If only it weren’t so pricey. At $30 for a small can, it is about double the price of regular formula. Oh well, he is worth it!
Sleeping: This is still our biggest struggle. I shouldn’t be surprised because so far none of my kids have been good sleepers but Lane may be the worst so far. If I am lucky, 2-3 nights per week he will give me one three hour stretch. After that he just wants to lay close to me and “snack” all night. I have been a bit more lenient with him because of his size but at 12 weeks, I think it will be time to transition him to his room. Fingers crossed that goes well. However, something tells me it won’t. Groan. On a positive note, he is a decent napper. Most days, he naps for 2 hours in the morning, another 1.5-2 hours during the afternoon and then little cat naps through late afternoon and early evening. It seems you either get good night time sleepers or good nappers but I hardly ever hear of getting a baby that is good at both.
Life in General: Overall, we are starting to get into our groove. There are moments that I want to lose my mind but they are becoming less and less. We have had a slight regression with Liam needing some extra snuggles from us but that is to be expected. After all, he was our “baby” for 6.5 years. What he doesn’t understand is that even when he is a grown man, he will still be MY baby. Always and forever!
I have been back to work since 6 weeks postpartum and it is going okay. I say “back to work” but I work from home so I haven’t had to go anywhere other than my desk. Still, it can be a struggle to get in my four hours per day when there is a baby that needs to be fed, changed and played with. I am doing the best I can and will continue unless it interferes with my ability to tend to my little guy.
I am also back to working out which feels SO good! I still need to focus on cleaning up my eating but it will come in time. I am giving myself some slack for now because well, nursing makes me hungry and I’m just a bit busier than I used to be! It will all come together in due time.
