This morning when I opened my back door to let my dog outside, I felt it immediately. The season is changing. While the afternoons are still plenty hot, the mornings are shifting to Fall like weather. The feel, the smell…..I love nothing more than breathing in that Fall air. I’ve always said that it’s a feeling I cannot quite describe but you just know when it has arrived.
I must say, I welcome the change. While I will pick hot weather over cold ANY day, I love the in between days the most. Short sleeves during the day with a sweater at night. Enjoying a hot cup of morning coffee on the patio while chill bumps are on your skin. Being wrapped in cozy blanket at a football game, hot cocoa in hand. Frye boots and skinny jeans. Pumpkin……..everything!
Tis the Season of Fall
The weather isn’t the only change I am writing about today.
Over the Summer, Lance and I talked a lot about putting our house up for sale. While we love the town we are living in and have really enjoyed our house, we were getting the itch for something bigger. Not a bigger house mind you, but a bigger LOT! A place where the kids can run and jump and play without being too loud for the neighbors. A place where we don’t have to yell at cars to slow down while the kids are riding their bikes out front.
After finding a neighborhood that we adored we decided to go for it. We put our house on the market and after 26 days, it sold. I’m not sure if that sounds quick or not, but at the time, it seemed like forever! Until it was time to start packing that is.
Currently, we are in the midst of purging and packing and goodness, that is no fun at all. As a matter of fact, when we moved to this house 4.5 years ago, I’m pretty sure I said I would never do it again. Famous last words, right?! This time I mean it though. After this move, we are not doing it for at least 10 years…..or if all goes as planned, ever!
It might not be so bad except due to the fact that we are building a new home, this move has to be done twice. Groaaaaan. We will be doing it up #townhouse style for about six months while our new home is being built. Putting 2500 sq ft and five people into an 1100 sq ft townhouse in going to make for some interesting logistics. Granted, half of our stuff will be in a storage facility but still…….
As much as I dread the move, I have to say I am actually looking forward to simplifying our lives for six months or so. A smaller, cozier place means less to clean and more time spent doing the things I love. More walks, more talks, more time to soak in the great season of Fall! It will also be a good test in all of our sanity, I’m sure.
Who knows, I may not even want the new house after seeing how appealing the simple life can be. One week and counting.
