Its been a while, eh? I think the last time I popped in, we were in the midst of packing up our house and preparing for a move.
We have been “settled” in our new but temporary place for a bit over a month now. I say settled but if I’m being honest, it feels anything but. I would be lying if I didn’t say this has been an adjustment, for all of us!
We went from living in a comfortable 2500 square foot house to being crammed into 1000 square feet and one less bedroom than we had before. That means that over half of our belongings are living in storage and the other half are squeezed into our apartment. Oh, and I have a new roommate. He’s cute but dang, he sure likes to party at night!
Over the last month we have had to deal with the stomach bug(it got all of us!), a broken arm and some short tempers! Lance and I keep saying that if we can make it through the next 6 months, we can make it through anything! It may seem a bit extreme and spoiled but I’m just being honest here. There have been many a time over the past four weeks that I found myself longing for my house. For Lane’s own bedroom and a garden tub to soak my stresses away at the end of the day.
The countdown for my new house is on. We have had our design meeting where we pick out the brick we want to use to our exterior, cabinets, paint, trim, flooring, you know, all the fun stuff. If only they would actually get started building the darn thing!!
Alrighty, enough of that” whoa is me” stuff. My living situation may be less than ideal but I am still beyond blessed in so many ways and I remind myself daily not to forget that. As a matter of fact, I will be using the month of November(my fave by the way!!) to show my gratitude every single day. While I don’t think we should only show thanks and gratitude one month out of the year, it is a good way to get into the practice of doing it regularly. It can be a lot easier to focus on the negative in our lives (see ^^^^^) so forcing ourselves to find something to be grateful for over 30 days is a positive challenge I’m ready to take on. I’ll be “journaling” my 30 days of gratitude on my Instagram account if you are interested in checking it out!
Topic Change! Let’s talk a little bit of Halloween shall we?
This year was really fun because we had a new baby to add in the mix! I really wanted my little munchkins to dress as a theme this year but the middle child wasn’t having it. He wants to be “cool” not “cute” so, what is a mama to do? We hodge podged it!
This year we had a 50’s car hop, a pirate, and a cute little scarecrow!
I just knew that Lane would hate wearing his costume but nope, we put it on him and he thought he was something else. It was too cute for words!! And because he is my 3rd child, the sugar rules just don’t apply. Baby boy got his first taste of sugar at 10.5 months old and boy did he love it!!
His eyes lit up with the first taste and he pitched a nice big fit when we took it away. And so it begins…..
Since we aren’t really in a neighborhood anymore, we went to my friend Brandi’s house for trick or treating and it was a blast!
She even decorated her golf cart so that we would be riding around in scary style. Sadly, it died about 5 minutes after we got in it. Booo!!!
Instead, we loaded the kiddos up in the back of a truck and made them work a little harder, walking from house to house. I should mention that these houses are on 1-3 acre lots so by the time their buckets were filled, they were pooped!
Now, I have the task of figuring out how to get rid of at least half of my kids candy because already they are bouncing off the walls. As for me, I had my fill and will be refraining from any and all sugary sweets until Thanksgiving day. A little sugar detox is just what my body needs!!
Have you ever built a house? Was your sanity still intact at the end of it? Tips on how to get through this trying time?
What did you or your munchkins dress up as for Halloween?
Share your gratitude! What are you thankful for RIGHT NOW?!
